The 2023-24 Cost of Living Rebate is a Palaszczuk Government initiative designed to provide financial support to individuals and families facing the challenges of rising living costs. The rebate aims to assist with cost of living pressures for Queenslanders, and make sure our vulnerable and senior residents are looked after.

What is the Cost of Living Rebate?

All Queensland households will be receiving one of the following:

    1. $1,072 Cost of Living Rebate on electricity bills for households of seniors and concession card holders.
$700 Cost of Living Rebate on electricity bills for vulnerable households, plus a further $372 under the Queensland Electricity Rebate Scheme, bringing total rebates for Queenslanders doing it tough to $1,072.

    2. $550 Cost of Living Rebate on electricity bills for all other Queensland households.

When will the rebate be applied?

For most households, the rebate will be credited to electricity bills on a quarterly basis commencing from 1 July 2023. Exact timing will depend on retailers’ system requirements and individual billing cycles.

I am a senior/concession card holder, what do I need to do?

If you have a seniors or concession card and you DON’T usually get a rebate, please ensure that you call your provider as soon as possible. It’s as simple as calling your energy provider and registering your seniors, veterans or concessions card to your account.

I’m only eligible for the $550 rebate, what do I need to do?

Nothing. The $550 will automatically be credited to your electricity account. However, if your Mum, Dad, grandparent, neighbour or friend could be eligible for the $1072 rebate (i.e. are a senior or concession card holder), check in to see if they are aware of what they could be claiming.

The Palaszczuk Government set aside $1.483 billion for extra electricity bill support in this budget, to help households and small businesses facing cost-of-living pressures and we want to ensure everybody who is eligible receives this Rebate.
